Here’s what the official Bolton Abbey website has to say about this stretch of the River Wharfe located in their grounds: “Please note the Strid is very dangerous and lives have been lost. Please take notice of the advice signs in this area and stay well back from the edge.”

My friend Joe decided to ignore this. Indeed, he got as close to it as he dared for the sake of this photograph. I took this shot with my 50mm f/1.4 wide open due to fading light. As a result, it isn’t the sharpest shot I have ever taken but I think the background bokeh makes it worthwhile. At the saturation level captured by my camera it was way too vivid (see below for another shot from the day without the saturation change) so I dragged it down a touch. I like the effect it produced.
